"And so the light played on; My eyes the movie screen as the blue iris' shimmered in the light." - Connor Tangney

A breeze swept the hair across my face as I lay on my back in the evening sun. Clouds danced across the sky, darkening vast areas along the field. The grass bowed in the wind, laying flat to the ground, only to stand back up when the bursts of air had vacated. Dandelion floated lazily in groups as the gusts passed through. Yellow clusters of pollen adjoined them, creating patches of what seemed like fog. The horizon was painted shades of red, the sun now nearing the ground. In contrast, clouds were tinted violet with the lack of light behind them.

The undergrowth tickled my arms as I stood, leaving me with goosebumps, a feeling I associated with happiness or glee. I stood, a tree among an empty clearing. Alone. Sideways glances were shot from cars as they crawled by. I could feel their gaze, as I walked toward the sun. Their eyes rest heavily on my back, boring holes through to my chest. Ignoring them, I broke out into a jog, chasing the ever setting sun. Shadows grew longer as night crept ever closer. Freedom. A feeling I hadn't experienced in a long while. The grass pulling at my legs, the air whipping through my hair. It was intoxicating. A drug all it's own.

People often misunderstood my reasoning for these lonely jogs through the field. It mattered not who I told, the logic was constantly misinterpreted. The warmth from the sun beating down comforted me. It assured me that everything would work out. The warmth of another, there for me no matter what came to be. The light that shone brightly was constant. Always there to guide me, much like a conscience. Thankfully enough, this conscience remained unskewed by the troubles of a day to day life. And so I believed in it. I let it play through me, reflect through my soul. I became it. And so the light played on; My eyes the movie screen as the blue iris' shimmered in the light. A faint hope that perhaps one day, all the misunderstanding in this world would fade away.
